Click here to add text.When talking to women riders, the number one complaint I hear over and over again is the amount of pelvic, hip, and knee pain these women experience in their saddles. After talking this over with my wife Ruth, who is a Womens Health Provider, I came to realize that men and women sit completely differently in the saddle. As you can see from the diagram on the right, women have much wider seatbones which are designed for childbirth. This can cause pain in the seatbones if the saddle seat is not wide enough in the back to accommodate the wider seatbones. Also the pubic bone of the female is much lower in the front, which can come into contact with the rise of the saddle and cause discomfort. The hip sockets face more laterally in the female causing them to ride with their toes pointed outword.So it is a testament to the will and fortitude of the female rider to endure this pain for the love of riding their horse.
We have been working closely with Bobby Beach from The National Bridle Shop to design a saddle specifically for the female rider. This is a new concept as the majority of all saddles are designed with the male rider in mind.
We have taken many surveys in 2011 on the trail,and at equine events, asking the female riders "what is most important to them in a saddle". The vast majority listed "must fit their horse" as number one.
Second is "it must fit the rider and place them in a balanced secure seat.".
Third was the "weight of the saddle".
Fourth was the "cost of the saddle" and . fifth was "quality of the product".
What we have designed is a saddle 21 lbs for the synthetic, and 25 lbs for the new all leather., with a balanced, wider, seat and a softer rise.The english stirrup leathers are placed slightly farther back to prevent the female rider from falling into a "chair seat". This encourages a more correct riding position and allows for a deeper seat.
